Summing up our project

On the 20th of June 2017 students engaged in the programme Erasmus+ - „We are all children of the Ancient Greeks and Romans” summed up the following stage of the programme .

During a common gathering in the school hall a group of pupils who have recently participated in the meeting in Torremolinos gave a report of their visit. They shared their impressions of the trip to Spain where they went to follow some steps of the ancient Romans, saw remains of the Arab architecture and came across works of Pablo Picasso. They also talked about the photographic exhibition in Centro Culturalo Pablo Picasso where photos taken by the winners of the international competition were shown.

The rules of the photographic competition said that the pictures were to be in black and white only and the subject had to be connected with Greek and Roman heritage. Among the picture topics we could find still life, ceramics, clothes, sculpture, architecture – all taken from an interesting point of view, playing with light and shadows. Pictures were inspiring, suggestive and allegoric. They gave food for thoughts. During the meeting the winners were announced, among them two from Poland. The public award went to Michał Zawisza for „Dawid In Our Times”. Jorge Garrido from Spain was given the award for „Time Flie s” as the best composition. Alicja Ćwir and her „Falling Olives” was rewarded for being the most original. . A special distinctions were also given to Margherita Pita from Italy for „Light Empire” and Rachele Chiappini also from Italy for „Beyond Appearances”.

All the awarded photographs can be admired at our school by pupils, their parents and guests invited to the ceremony finishing school year.

. Pupils gathered in our audio-visual hall were able to watch a short film illustrating the competition and the exhibition itself, which was done by Daphne Pelet from Spain. Our students could also enjoy seeing the performance of ”Let them love us” which had been originally prepared for the visit to Torremolinos. The play is a variation on the topic of Greek mythology in its connotation to the modern times. The group under supervision of the Polish teacher, Mr Piotr Reiss, showed a spectacle ( in English language) which also gave us some food for thoughts as it talked about things which could touch any of us.

Finally, Mr Bech, our deputy head teacher, reminded everyone what tasks are still awaiting us in the next school year.
